Smoke Damage Claims
Smoke damage resulting from a fire is dangerous and can kill anyone susceptible to it for as little as a few minutes. It can be as devastating as the fire itself. Smoke can cause more unseen damage than fire damage.
How Does Smoke Damage Affect a Property?
Burning materials during a fire disaster leave both an odor and physical residue behind; this is smoke damage. Sometimes heavy soot sometimes lite soot.
A fire can leave a variety of odors and black and oily residues in wood, fabrics, plastics and other materials. Professional cleaning products and equipment are needed to thoroughly remove smoke damage without producing additional harm to the property or its residents. Insurance companies love to say personal property items can be cleaned for the simple reason it costs them less.
Tips for Smoke Damage Insurance Claims
If your home or business property has been affected by a neighbor’s fire or other, it is urgent that you know what damage is covered by your insurance policy which we will check for you. Leave the property, CALL US immediately and make sure that nothing is removed from the premises.
Contact your insurance company following a fire and let us help you file the claim and review your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy. If the policy was lost in the fire, your insurance company or agent can and should immediately provide you or us with another copy. Search for information regarding your policy’s coverage, deductibles, limitations or exclusions, and if there are any filing deadlines. We can help.
If possible, take photos or video of the damage and try not to disturb the affected property and possessions. Allow only necessary authorities on site and let Harris Claims Services assist with the restoration and damage estimates.

Our staff and a team of fire loss experts handle every single phase of the settlement procedure through and including the repair process.
PHASE 1 – Claims Adjustment: Adjust, Maximize, and Settle the Claim
During the first phase, Harris Claims Services will manage the preparation, negotiation, and settlement of all claims covered under the insurance policy. Our staff of experts reviews your policy to confirm that all claims have been maximized and accounted for before closing any settlement, including numerous clauses within a policy that can increase the recoverable amount. Our owner Jason Harris has the legal knowledge and understanding of insurance policies. After all he is also a practicing attorney who specializes in insurance claims.
Harris Claims Services will move as quickly as possible to meet policy requirements to evaluate the facts and prepare the claim. Our prompt service helps preserve evidence that may otherwise be overlooked or destroyed by an insurance company adjuster. While it is our office which will prepare, support and negotiate the claim, the ultimate decision to accept is the owner.
PHASE 2 – Repair & Restoration: Construction & Restoration Of Damaged Property
Once there is a verbal settlement agreement between Harris Claims Services and your insurance provider, we’ll begin construction immediately. We won’t wait for the insurance company to issue the settlement checks, which can sometimes take months from the date of the fire. We won’t wait for your mortgage company to set up the escrow account. If our customer decides to keep Harris Claims Services to perform the fire repairs or restoration after Phase 1, then there is no building adjusting fee, and work is done based on the amount agreed upon by the insurance company.
We will guide you through every phase of the entire process to ensure that your smoke damage claim has been paid in full and your property is restored to a pre-catastrophic condition, if not better.
Fire and Smoke Damage Claims Costs & Fees
The fee for our public adjusting services is paid from insurance proceeds; therefore, there is no out-of-pocket expense to the policyholder or smoke damage victims. We charge between 7% and 10% of the insurance company’s claims settlement with you. Our team has helped thousands of policyholders obtain on average 35% to 200% more from their claims, so our fees are offset by the larger settlement that is obtained by using our services.
